HBCU-UP: Historically Black Colleges and Universities-Undergraduate Program

HBCU EiR announcement expected to be released in December

Dear Colleague Letter DCL 17-138 was released Sept. 19 to introduce a new program expected to be announced next month. The program, titled, “HBCU Excellence in Research” (EiR), will be open to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The program will aim to provide opportunities for sustainable improvements to the research and development capacity and competitiveness of participating institutions.

NSF anticipates that the program will accept two types of proposals:

  1. Research projects of up to $1,000,000 to stimulate research capacity and competitiveness through interdisciplinary collaborations across universities;
  2. Research projects of up to $500,000 to support research conducted by individual PIs.

Proposals will be submitted to HBCU-Undergraduate Program, with the identification of a secondary division by the PI after consultation with the appropriate program director.

The MCB representative for this program is
Dr. Casonya Johnson – casjohns@nsf.gov
